Everything you need to know about shipping your future vintage bike 🙂

Dismantling and protecting the bike

Joli Vélo ships its restored vintage bicycles worldwide.

Some parts are dismantled and the bike is carefully protected so that it is not damaged during transport. Cardboard boxes are used that are specially designed for shipping bicycles.

The parts that are dismantled for the dispatch of bicycles are :

- The pedals
- The quick-release wheels
- The front wheel
- The front mudguard (if required)
- The saddle and the seat tube
- The handlebars and stem are loosened so that they can be rotated

The rear wheel and rear derailleur are also removed for shipping to Europe and the rest of the world. If necessary, the front brake calliper can sometimes be removed so that the fork can be swivelled (it is not necessary to adjust the brake when reassembling).

Only basic tools are requiredto reassemble the disassembled parts.
Generally required:

- Open-end spanner with the dimensions 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 18
- Allen key

Neoprene tubes protect the frame, as do bubble wrap, cardboard and plastic film in several layers. Disassembled parts are also protected or packed in smaller boxes so that they do not damage the bike during transport.
